Created by Durham University for the Early Years sector in Bristol, the ‘Training Programme in Normal Infant Sleep for Early Years Practitioners’ will help those working in early years settings to gain an understanding of the basics of sleep biology and sleep development of babies and young children. This includes how sleep needs change over time, and how to implement appropriate and safe sleep in early years settings. The programme concludes with discussion of the impact of baby and child sleep on parents’ well-being, how to communicate sleep information with them, and where to refer them for support.
The programme comprises 4 videos totalling approximately 2 hours altogether. Each video contains questions for discussion where the video should be paused for teams to discuss their responses to the questions posed. There are also discussion questions suggested at the end of the videos for managers or team leads to use for further discussion at the end of each video. These questions focus on how the information learned will be used in your specific nursery setting.
