Providers in the private, voluntary and independent sector are expected to identify a SENCO and childminders are encouraged to identify a person to act as SENCO. Childminders who are registered with a agency or who are part of a network may wish to share that role between them. (DfE (2014) Statutory Framework for Early Years Foundation Stage)
We are delighted to once again be running the NCFE CACHE Level 3 Award for Special Educational Needs Coordinators in Early Years Settings | NCFE.
This qualification is suitable for learners in a range of roles, however we anticipate that most will be early years educators in a Bristol ‘PVI’ (private, voluntary and independent sector) or childminder who are currently the named SENCo or aspire to be. It is also open to those in nursery schools and schools, but these types of education establishment have other qualification requirements for the named SENCo.
Learners must be at least 16 years old.
Our experience of the qualification is that it does require a good level of commitment. Learners will need to produce written work that demonstrates that they have read, interpreted and evaluated a range of information from a variety of sources.
We require all learners to have completed the ‘Introduction to Early Years Inclusive Practice’ module in the Dingley’s Promise Early Years Inclusion Programme before the first session.
To be awarded the Level 3 Award, learners must achieve a pass in the 2 mandatory units.
We will be running eight full day sessions over four months. These comprise of taught sessions to cover the course content (morning) and guided sessions to support completion of the required submissions (afternoons). There will also be visits to other settings and presentations from other professionals.
Learners are expected to attend the full eight days and submit written assignments to demonstrate that the meet all the Learning Outcomes.
A range of assignments will be set using templates that support the learner to demonstrate that that have met all the required Learning Outcomes.
Support and guidance will be provided during the sessions. This may be supplemented through the Early Years Inclusion visits normally provided to the learners’ settings.
At the moment, the course is fully funded by Bristol Early Years.
We reserve the right to make a charge should you miss sessions or leave the course without qualification.
